Introduction to Capacity Building

Capacity Building is an activity intended to provide learning and development opportunities to improve the knowledge, skills, or behaviors of individuals within a community. It is generally a strategic and/or targeted effort to influence sustainable change for individuals and their communities.

The three learning types incorporated into our system are based on the International Finance Corporation (IFC):

  • Functional capacities: considered as cross-cutting capacities mainly required to manage, implement, and review projects.
  • Technical capacities: associated with some type of expertise; such as microfinance or agriculture.
  • Behavioural capacities: are habits and a change of attitude
