Introduction to the Capacity Building

A capacity-building event is defined as learning and development activities aimed at improving the knowledge, skills or behaviors of individuals within a community, with the intention to effect sustainable change for those individuals and for their community.

The three learning types mentioned in this guide are based on the International Finance Corporation (IFC):

  • Functional capacities: considered as crosscutting capacities mainly required to manage, implement and review projects.
  • Technical capacities: associated to some type of expertise; such as a microfinance or agriculture.
  • Behavioral capacities: are habits and a change of attitude
