Glossary

The following data play a role in the Environmental Monitoring module:

Monitoring Programs: the foundation of the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment module. A program establishes the link between:

  • parameters to be measured;
  • thresholds to be met;
  • monitoring stations, where samples are collected;
  • the samples taken;
  • and, indirectly, the sample analysis results and alerts.

Parameters: the measurements to be taken from samples (name, unit, accepted values, etc.). These are measured as part of the Monitoring Program(s).

Monitoring Stations: the locations where samples are taken, which are used within the framework of Monitoring Program(s).

Samples: monitoring of parameters, including information about the Monitoring Station and Program under which the samples were taken.

Results: define the values of the measurements taken. A result refers to the measured parameter and to the source sample from which the result was obtained.

Thresholds: a range of values. Threshold refers to the standard, parameter and Monitoring Program(s) to which it applies and the condition (from the Compliance Management module) that defines it, if applicable.

When the result of a parameter is within the value range defined by a threshold, an alert is generated, as is an observation, if the threshold is linked to a condition in the Compliance Management module.

Standards: a set of thresholds.

Alerts: notifications are automatically created when a sample is measured and results obtained for that sample fall within the range of values defined in the thresholds. An Alert refers to the sample that is the source of the results, the threshold(s) and the observation(s), if any.
