Customizing Your Chrome Integrated Search Engine

It is possible to search in the Borealis application directly via the URL bar in Chrome.

With this functionality, there is no need to log into Borealis to access records. This simple trick helps access records faster and saves time navigating through web pages.

Once this is set up, you can simply enter Bi Donald Ackerman in your Chrome URL bar to launch a search into Borealis Individuals register directly.

  2. Click on the Customize and control google chrome (ellipsis) menu in the upper right corner of your browser.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. In the left menu, select Search engine.

  8. In the Add site search window, enter the following information:
    • Name: This is used to help you identify what you are searching for. E.g., Borealis Individuals
    • Shortcut: This the command you will use to initiate a search through this site search. E.g., BI
    • URL with %s instead of query: This is the URL to Borealis that will allow you to make site searches in a specific register. After identifying the type of register you want to use, you can create the link and paste it here.

Identify the URL for Your Site Search

In this example, we will create a URL for a site search in the Individuals register. The same strategy can be used for other registers.

  1. Open the global search in the upper left corner of any window.
  2. Enter an Individual's name in the search field and select Individuals in the register field.
For our example, we will search for Donald Ackerman.
  3. You will have a URL similar to the following in your web browser navigation bar:
    https://APPLICATIONNAME.boreal-is.com/-/APPLICATIONNAME/stakeholders_engagement~register~individuals?search=donald+ackermand&advanced=%7B%7D&sort=%7B%22type%22%3A%22relevance%22%7D&mode=list
  4. You need to remove the last part of the search and replace it by %s.
  5. Your URL will now be similar to the following:
    https://APPLICATIONNAME.boreal-is.com/-/APPLICATIONNAME/stakeholders_engagement~register~individuals?search=%s
  6. Paste the link into the URL with %s instead of query field in site search.

Note that in those examples, [APPLICATIONNAME] should be replaced with the name of your Borealis instance.

When using the Corporate view add-on, your instance name will be different from a regular instance name. Your Application name will be used in the first part, but your site instance name will be used for the second part.

Use the Site Search

After configuring your site search, you can use it to search for record.

  1. Enter the shortcut in your web browser navigation bar followed by a space.
For example if you used the shortcut Bi (for Borealis Individuals) and you wanted to search for "Donald Ackerman", you would input "Bi Donald Ackerman"
  2. Press Enter.

You will then be redirected to a register list page with records that fully or partially match your search.
