Automatically Open Certain Files From Borealis

You can automatically set your operating system and browser to allow for specific document types downloaded from Borealis to automatically open in their associated application.

In the following example, we will use a .eml file type. You can use the same procedure for different file types as needed.

Setup Your Operating System to Open Files With A Desired Program

Windows 10

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Type Default apps in the search bar.
  3. Select Default apps in the search results.
  4. Select Choose default apps by file type at the bottom of the page.
  5. In the left hand side of the window, scroll down to .eml.
  6. Click on the application in the right column.
  7. Select your email client.

Windows 11

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Type Default apps in the search bar.
  3. Select Default apps in the search results.
  4. In the Set a default for a file type or link type search bar, enter the name of the file type you want to assign a default software to. 
  5. Click + Choose a default.
  6. Select your email client.
  7. Click the Set default button.

Setup Your Browser to Open Files Automatically

Chrome and Microsoft Edge

  1. Navigate to a record with an .eml file you want to download.
  2. Initiate the download. 
  3. Once you have downloaded the file, open the Downloads located to the right of your address bar.
  4. Right-click on the downloaded element.
  5. Select Always open files of this type.
