Suggested System and Browser Settings

Auto-open

Operating system and browser settings can be used to allow for specific document types downloaded from Boréalis to automatically open in their associated application. The Email document type .eml will be considered in what follows however the procedure would apply equally well for other types.

In all cases, the first step consists in associating the specific (.eml) file type with your preferred (mail client) application. This has to be done only once, as follows:

  1. Go to the Windows Settings and then Apps | Default apps.
  2. At the bottom of this page, click on Choose default apps by file type, locate the .eml file type and select the desired application.

Then use the below procedure to set up your preferred browser.

Chrome

Once downloaded, the .eml file can be opened automatically in your preferred mail client by clicking the arrow on the right of the file name (displayed in the lower left corner of the Chrome window) and then choosing Always open files of this type. This has to be done only once.

Edge

Once downloaded, the .eml file can be opened in your preferred mail client by clicking the Open button displayed at the bottom of the Edge window:

(Not supported) Internet Explorer 11

Once downloaded, the .eml file can be opened in your preferred mail client by clicking the Open button displayed at the bottom of the Internet Explorer window:
