Publish spatial data natively, securely, and live
The Geospatial Data API allows you to publish spatial data from Borealis directly into GIS tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS. With this live connection, users can eliminate manual exports and ensure that GIS maps always reflect the latest data entered in Borealis. This feature allows greater efficiency, data consistency, and faster cross-departmental collaboration.
Examples of Use Cases
Real-Time Spatial Visibility
A data manager is responsible for ensuring spatial data like agreements or parcels are accurately represented in GIS. With the Geospatial Data API, data entered in Borealis appears directly in ArcGIS without the need for exports. This streamlines operations and avoids duplicate work.
Supporting Field Operations
After logging an issue during community engagements, a liaison officer links it to a parcel in Borealis. The engineering team can immediately view this issue in ArcGIS, helping them prepare for upcoming field visits without needing to consult multiple teams.
Strategic Planning & Compliance
A CSR manager uses ArcGIS to assess project alignment with land use and regulatory boundaries. By overlaying Borealis data, such as signed agreements or stakeholder parcels, she can make informed decisions and plan proactive engagement activities.
Main Features
Live Data Integration
Spatial data from Borealis is published through a Web Feature Service (WFS) in real time. No need to export, transform, or upload data manually.
GIS Compatibility
Supports industry-standard GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) with WFS 1.0 and 2.0 protocols.
Secure Access
Token-based authentication with a dedicated WFS user profile ensures secure data access.
Custom Layer Configuration
Layers are predefined based on your Borealis data structure. Points, lines, and polygons are supported, with configurable attributes and filters.
Note: Layers are read-only and cannot be edited directly in GIS tools.
Configurable by Support Team
The Borealis support team works with you to define the structure and content of each GIS layer based on your forms and spatial data.
Access Levels
A dedicated WFS user profile is required to access WFS data.
API tokens are managed by a superuser to ensure secure authentication.
Note: All configured data is visible in GIS once published. If sensitive information should be excluded, this must be defined during setup, as role-based permissions are not applied within layers.
Monitoring & Reporting
Once configured, layers update automatically. Any spatial data changes made in Borealis are reflected live in your GIS system, supporting real-time analysis, planning, and reporting.
